In December, the MBF celebrated another successful year at its 2015 Holiday Celebration, hosted by One Brickell and The Related Group. This lavish affair brought together more than 100 Master Brokers for an evening of fun, food, and commemoration.Master Brokers Forum South Florida Event

Chaired by Iliana Abella, Penni Chasens, and Nancy Iliffe, the party was held in the lobby of 444 Brickell Avenue; the future site of One Brickell. Upon completion, the “megaproject” will link Miami’s Riverwalk section with the downtown district, and contain three towers of 57, 77 and 82 stories, with a combination of residential and hotel units, along with about 40,000 square feet of office space and 25,000 square feet of retail.

Upon arrival at the celebration, members enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Carlos Rosso, president of Related’s condominium division, welcomed the guests, congratulated them on another successful year, and outlined Related’s dramatic plans for One Brickell.Master Brokers Forum South Florida Event

After thanking the party hosts for their generosity, Miami MBF chair Jeff Morr welcomed his fellow Master Brokers and recapped the many events and highlights that made 2015 so successful. He then presented the chapter’s 2015 "Legacy Award" to Consuelo Stewart, broker and co-owner of Shelton and Stewart Realtors, and introduced the MBF’s 2015 scholarship recipients, Florida International University seniors Amanda Aguilar and Noe Perrin Fontana, who plan to pursue careers in Miami real estate.(See stories below.)Master Brokers Forum South Florida Event

“We thank our dear friends at The Related Group for once again hosting a fabulous Master Brokers Forum event," said Morr. “We look forward to One Brickell continuing the incredible transformation of that neighborhood, and the impact it will have on our city’s urban core.”

MBF Honors Consuelo Stewart With 2015 "Legacy Award"33fcc85b-6169-41b1-adfd-e15e4023e9e7

Consuelo Stewart, broker and co-owner of Shelton and Stewart Realtors, was named the MBF's 2015 "Legacy Award" honoree. The Legacy Award recognizes longtime members who have enjoyed exceptional careers in Miami real estate, and whose leadership and professionalism elevated the standards for the entire industry.

Ms. Stewart is one of the region’s most successful and recognizable agents, with more than 35 years of service in Miami’s Coral Gables, Cocoplum, Pinecrest, and Key Biscayne neighborhoods. Known for her unrivalled focus and work ethic, she began her career as a Realtor-associate in the 1970s and then went on to become a broker, often selling the same high-level properties for her clients three or four times over. She co-founded Earnest and Stewart in the 1980s, and in 2008, joined forces with friendly rival Teresita Shelton to form Shelton and Stewart, later joined by Teresita Shelton Bernace.

Master Brokers Forum South Florida Event“I feel truly blessed and honored by this recognition, as it comes from my close peers and colleagues in Miami real estate,” said Ms. Stewart. “Having done this work for more than three decades, I have always appreciated the collaborative nature of our local real estate community, where a good reputation is earned by being ethical, professional, and by helping your fellow Realtors. I was also lucky to find a career that allowed women like myself the flexibility to be successful while also raising three children.”

Previous MBF Legacy Award honorees include Alicia Cervera, Sr. and Evelyn Framer (2011), Jeanne Baker (2012), Rosalie Elliot (2013), and Teresita Shelton (2014).

MBF Awards $5,000 in Scholarships to FIU Real Estate StudentsMaster Brokers Forum South Florida Event

Each year, the MBF awards $5,000 in scholarships to deserving Florida International University students who plan to pursue careers in real estate, or may already be doing so. The chapter has made this an annual initiative, making the path to real estate professionalism a little easier for deserving students.

The 2015 MBF Scholarship recipients were Amanda Aguilar; a working mother (and licensed Realtor) who supports her family while also attending school, and Noe Perrin Fontana; a double-major in Finance and Real Estate, who has already earned Dean’s List honors as well as his real estate license.

Congratulations to Amanda and Noe!

Master Brokers Share Real Estate Marketing Secrets at SLS LUX

summer 2014 The MBF's June 2014 event featured an informative panel discussion and dinner at the SLS LUX sales center. More than 100 Master Brokers renewed acquaintances and networked during a lavish welcome reception. Carlos Rosso, president of the Condominium Division for The Related Group (developer of the SLS LUX, along with The Allen Morris Company), greeted the guests and informed them about this spectacular hotel and condominium project, located on South Miami Avenue between Eighth and Ninth streets, scheduled to open in 2016. (Marking the first time in many years in which a MBF panel featured only active members.) Moderated by MBF founder Helen Jeanne Nicastri, the panel included Oscar Arellano, Jo-Ann Forster, and Judy Zeder. The trio shared their most effective marketing strategies for real estate professionals in an extremely competitive, diverse, and evolving market, including various online tactics; the pros and cons of going "all in" with expensive, glossy inserts in daily newspapers; and the singular importance of the top decision-maker in such a hectic environment. FROM THE BEACH TO THE BIG CITY

Fabulous 2012 Events Attract Master Brokers to Soho Beach House and Vizcayne ...with more to come!

june 2012
This year, Miami Master Brokers from Aventura to Homestead have already enjoyed two fabulous, fun, and enlightening events! Participation in MBF signature events is the greatest single benefit of your membership, and attendees certainly reap the rewards. In February, members enjoyed a lively and educational panel discussion on "Timeless Residential Design", sponsored by acclaimed architectural interior designer Alfred Karram, Jr. of AKJ Design Concepts at the Soho Beach House in Miami Beach. Following a reception on the hotel's bar patio (where oversized images of Karram's award-winning, ultra-luxurious design work were projected onto nearby buildings), guests were ushered into the nearby Library, where Karram welcomed and thanked the guests for their participation. Karram then joined local architect Rene Gonzalez and Claudio Faria of Ornare Kitchen for an in-depth panel discussion focusing on the importance of quality and timelessness in home design. At the year's second event, held in May, members learned "What's Up With Downtown?", sponsored by Vizcayne. The evening began with a cocktail reception in one of Vizcayne's luxurious penthouses, providing breathtaking views of downtown Miami, Miami Beach, and Biscayne Bay. Afterwards, guests were escorted into the magnificent club room, where International Sales Group principal (and Master Broker) Craig Studnicky welcomed them and introduced the project. This was followed by a comprehensive presentation from Alyce Robertson, executive director of Miami's Downtown Development Authority (DDA). Ms. Robertson covered a wide range of topics that illustrated the city's extraordinary and promising future, including downtown Miami's dramatically improving occupancy rates (up to 93% in 2011); increasingly younger demographics; major projects from international corporations (Resort World Miami and Brickell CitiCentre); and enhanced public transportation options (Miami Trolley and MetroRail's expansion to Miami International Airport). She also discussed the city's numerous cultural outlets; luxury hotel options; burgeoning rental market; and the critical significance of Miami's NAP of the Americas. "As anyone who attends our events will tell you, they are simply phenomenal, and I feel badly for members who choose not to take advantage of the chance to attend them," said Emilio Palomo, Miami MBF chair. "Our talented and brilliant event chairs - Jeff Morr, Donna Bloom, Pat Klock Parker, and Christopher Zoller - work incredibly hard and deliver extraordinary affairs for their fellow members."

MBF'S "GREATEST HOME I EVER SOLD" COLLECTION OFFERS FASCINATING AND JUICY TALES OF MIAMI REAL ESTATE

greatest home ive ever sold Miami's Top Producers Look Back on More Than Twenty Years of Home Sales That Generated Laughs, Tears, Lessons, and Unforgettable Stories Earlier this year, the MBF introduced an extraordinary collection of stories centered around its members' most unique and memorable home sales. "The Greatest Home I Ever Sold" reflects on the past twenty-plus years of Miami's dramatic real estate cycles, and offers readers an assortment of fascinating "horror stories", career lessons, down-to-the-wire thrillers, and laugh-out-loud moments. The MBF's "Greatest Home I Ever Sold" collection can be found online at: www.masterbrokersforum.com/Miami-Dade/The-Greatest-Home-I-Ever-Sold.aspx Each "Greatest Home..." account features the Master Broker's name and contact information, their explanation of what made the sale unique, and photographs of the member and property. Highlights of the MBF's "Greatest Home I Ever Sold" include:
  • Hilarious Mishaps: Penni Chasens' tumble into the water (with her buyers) as an unsturdy Sunset Islands dock falls to pieces under their feet; while showing a home, Hazel Goldman walks in to find a stark naked seller frying some eggs; Carlos Garcia's cash buyer arrives at the closing table with his wife - but without the necessary funds, only to arrive with it later, revealing that he had lent the money to his mistress and could not talk openly at the original closing
  • A perfect illustration of the 2000's "boom" cycle: Tere Bernace Shelton's three sales of one Cocoplum home at $3.9 million (2003), $6.15 million (2006), and again at $7.5 million (2007)
  • The subsequent down cycle, recounted by Marilyn Potts' touching story of a modest short-sale, made remarkable by the seller's heartfelt appreciation
  • The recent recovery, illustrated by Bill Hernandez's 2010 $5.3 million sale at the Apogee condominium and Judy Zeder's 2010 $9 million sale
  • Melissa Rubin's moving story of an estate sale for a recently deceased artist (and mother of a close friend), in which the buyer purchases the home after seeing a painting left there by the artist, and requests that the painting remain as a tribute
  • The Power of the Internet: Evan Goldman's $1 million sale to a buyer who did not actually see or step foot into the home before purchasing
"Readers of this collection may be surprised by the diversity of homes; it would have been easy for our members to only showcase their largest or most expensive sales, but the finished product wouldn't have been nearly as interesting or enjoyable," said Emilio Palomo, chair of the Miami MBF. "The important thing to remember from all of these stories is that - despite some challenges and strange curveballs - each one is a completed sale, thanks in large part to a Master Broker who knows how to overcome obstacles, and bring a happy conclusion for everyone involved."

"This was truly one of the most special and unique occasions we have ever put together, and I cannot give enough credit to our exceptional host committee for its success," said Emilio Palomo, Miami MBF chair.  "Special thank you to our friends at Gibraltar for the party and everything associated with it, and at Tui Lifestyle for the generous gifts for our members."
